Time For Change

America: Land of the free and home of the brave? It all sounds good until you delve deeper into the issue of racism. To me it simply comes down to POWER, MONEY and VALUES.

It all started last Sunday when a couple of Rams players publicly displayed their opinions on the Ferguson decision, and showed support for not only their black community but also sent a message to the entire world that this injustice will no longer be tolerated.

I mean a lot of these same players grew up in rural urban areas such as Ferguson.

So what’s the big deal right?

Well Jeff Rooda and the Ferguson Police Association (FPA) didn’t take to kindly to that. The FPA wrote a letter to the NFL regarding the events that happened prior to the game.

In the letter, the FPA said they were “very disappointed” and the players should issue a “public apology.” Rooda said the players were “way out of bounds” and were accusing officer Darren Wilson of being a murder.

This all stemmed from the grand jury’s decision to not convict Wilson, who is white, of shooting unarmed Michael Brown, who happens to be African-American.

The fact that the Ferguson Police Association got upset because a couple of black men were proud, angry, fed up or frustrated enough to stand up for something they believed in not only describes the bigotry of our society, but sends the wrong message to the future of America.

Officer Wilson recently resigned from the force, but it still does not negate the facts or bring Michael Brown back.

Why is the FPA so upset with what happened during a football game?

Now being an intelligent proud young black man, things like this don’t make any sense to me at all. Rooda and the Ferguson Police Association should both issue a public apology for being so disrespectful and actually wasting the time to write such a ridiculous statement, which shouldn’t have been made.

I mean the audacity of them saying they were “ very disappointed” and it was “tasteless.” Who the hell do they think they are? Was it not disappointing and tasteless to see yet another cop take the life of a young black man?

Why can’t you just live with the fact that Wilson got away with murder and facts don’t lie.

Is it because more than 60% of the NFL is African-American and it could make an impact, especially in the black community? Is it because people within the sports community are starting to speak up against the injustice that resonates in urban areas? Or is it because your just plain upset and mad that people stood up for something other than healthcare reform? Maybe you feel like the black community just needs to get back into its place, really?

I mean for crying out loud, our President is Black, and you even treat him with disrespect and can’t wait to push him out of office. His whole message in getting elected was CHANGE the problem with that is how can we change when no one wants to, or even see there’s still a huge problem.

The fact that some parts of white America still thinks backwards says a lot that even though we have come so far technologically, we are still stuck in reverse when it comes to class and race.

Can I offer some advice, stop living in the past and look forward to the future. Maybe if you treat others with the same dignity and respect you expect to be treated with it will come back to you. Lets not forget even if unacknowledged, “white entitlement” is real.

Just saying
