Yasiel Puig under Investigation For Role At Miami Bar

yasiel-puig-20141If the latest reports are true about Dodgers’ outfielder Yasiel Puig. The roars regarding the Cuban’s future will only grow louder.

The 24-year-old will be investigated by the commissioner’s office under Major League Baseball’s new domestic violence policy following a TMZ report detailing how Puig shoved his sister and a “massive brawl” broke out where the Cuban was left with a “swollen left eye.”

The incident took place at club “Blue Martini.”

Renato Bermudez of ESPN Deportes first reported the story.  Bermudez also reported their was //platform.twitter.com/widgets.js“>video evidence of the alleged altercation.

All signs point to Puig being involved in a scuffle.  So far, the Dodgers’ have been quite about the whole thing, but if this turns into a distraction in the off-season expect Andrew Friedman to call Puig up to his office to have a “talk.”

Puig didn’t have an exciting year, and was limited during the season due to injury.  Then Scott Van Slyke dad, Andy, said some eye-raising statements during a radio interview.

This should be very interesting how this plays out.

Zack Greinke Opts Out OF Contract

zack-greinke-mlb-colorado-rockies-los-angeles-dodgers-850x560Dodgers right-handed pitcher Zack Greinke has officially opted of his contract with the organization, according to Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times via twitter.

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js The much anticipated move puts the former Cy Young winner on the market as one of the league’s most appealing free agents.  He will undoubtedly command a maximum deal.

Now the Dodgers’ front office has to deal with finding a manager and a valuable pitcher.

The team hasn’t found the right formula to fill into the back of the rotation yet using spot pitchers such as Brett Anderson, Alex Wood and one-time Mat Latos.

With Hyun-Jin Ryu coming back, he will presumably be the number-two pitcher unless they find better on the market.  Or they could start the development process with their pitching in the farm system.

Andrew Friedman, the team’s president of baseball operations, will have a lot to contemplate this offseason.  In the meantime, let’s just hope the Dodgers don’t do nothing drastic.

Lakers Lose To Nuggets 120-109

kobe-bryantAnother game, another lose.

The Lakers will start the season 0-4, only the third time in franchise history, losing to the Denver Nuggets 120-109, Tuesday night at Staples Center.

Again, the defense was non existent.

The Nuggets ( 2-2) scored 60 points by halftime, and Kenneth Faried couldn’t be stopped in the middle.

Head coach Bryon Scott tried matching Faried’s effort with Julius Randle, but Randle had difficulty stopping the four-year veteran.

Faried finished with 28 points and 15 rebounds.  He also was  perfect from the free-throw line.

Kobe Bryant, who is struggling to find the basket, shot a mere 36 percent from the field and 20 percent from three-point range. He finished with 11 points, five assists and three rebounds.

The duel between rookies D’Angelo Russell and Emmanuel Mudiay never panned out as expected.  Russell nor Mudiay played in the fourth quarter, and when they did play Jordan Clarkson was assigned to guard the seventh overall pick.

Mudiay got the better of Russell this round finishing with a double-double (12 points, 10 assists), while Russell finished with 11 points and five assists.  But Russell did win the turnover battle while his counterpart committing six.

Even  though the season is still young, the  Lakers will embark on a five-game road trip in which their are some very winnable games.

The Lakers will begin their road trip on the east coast facing the Nets and Knicks then head to Miami and Orlando, and finish in Dallas.

Randle was his typical self, pounding his way to 16 points, but grabbed only five rebounds. He was poked in his right eye last game and in the second half was hit in it again by Danillo Gallinari. Prompting him to sit down on the bench immediately.

The core of this young team is still figuring out life as NBA players and the journey back to prominence may be a longer than people expect.

When the game was over the Staples Center crowd booed, and Bryant walked off the court with his head down.
